Glass garage doors are also sometimes known as “Full View” Garage Doors. Theses doors will use steel, or more commonly aluminum frames with full length glass. The appearance is very modern and similar to some commercial buildings. We’ve even seen these doors used in patios, foyers, sun rooms, and great rooms to either extend the living space or open a home to fresh air and the fragrances of the great outdoors.

The glass can be clear, tinted, opaqued, or otherwise decorated to match the style of the home and privacy needs of the home owner. Additionally, multi-color and style frames can be use to provide additional style options.

Garage Doors – Styles and Design Options – Carriage House Doors

Replacing your Garage Door can make a huge difference in the curb appeal of your home. There are lots of styles of new garage doors to be considered and sometimes it is too much to visualize. To help, we are creating a series of posts where we review the basic styles of garage doors. We will include the design options of each and some before and after pictures.

This article will cover the steel garage doors designed to look like Carriage House doors.

Carriage House style garage doors are near the upper end of the product line of garage doors. As such, the steel used for Carriage House doors is at least 24 gauge. Another major difference between Carriage House doors and other styles, is the use of just 3 sections or panels. Most steel garage doors will use 4 sections for a 7’ tall door and 5 sections for an 8’ tall door. Because the stamp patterns are unique and complex, Carriage House garage doors are made with just 3 sections.

Multicolor paint is often used to help highlight the Carriage House style and appearance. Windows or “lights” are a frequent design element in Carriage House doors, as are decorative straps hinges and handles.

Garage Doors – Styles and Design Options – Designer Doors

Replacing your Garage Door can make a huge difference in the curb appeal of your home. There are lots of styles of new garage doors to be considered and sometimes it is too much to visualize. To help, we are creating a series of posts where we review the basic styles of garage doors. We will include the design options of each and some before and after pictures.

We will continue with what we call a Designer Series garage door.

As with traditional garage doors, Designer Series Garage Doors are made of steel. The thickness of the steel can vary between 25 and 24 gauge with the larger the number the thinner the steel.

A pattern is stamped in the face of the steel to reduce flexing as the door rolls up and down. Most commonly, that pattern features a subtle wood grain and more decorative elements that resemble a wooden structure. The pattern may be smaller and tighter or larger and broader with raised or recessed elements.

As you can see, Designer doors can have windows or “lights” installed in a section. Usually this is the top section, but some people prefer to look of a door with the windows in the third section. Decorative inserts can be added to the windows to create designs that further the customization possibilities.

Finally, while designer doors come in a variety of solid colors from the manufactures, multiple tone wood grain effect paint is also available. This really helps give a Designer door the look of real wood.Designer Garage Door in Short Panel Multigrain Oak with Windows and InsertsIf you have any questions or need more information, please contact Arizona’s Garage Door Doctor at 602-495-1555. Garage Doors – Styles and Design Options – Traditional Doors

Replacing your Garage Door can make a huge difference in the curb appeal of your home. There are lots of styles of new garage doors to be considered and sometimes it is too much to visualize. To help, we are creating a series of posts where we review the basic styles of garage doors. In the series, we will include the design options of each category of door and some before and after pictures.

We will start with a basic or Traditional garage door.

Most garage doors today are made of steel. The thickness of the steel can vary between 26 and 24 gauge with the larger the number the thinner the steel.  A pattern is stamped in the face of the steel to reduce flexing as the door rolls up and down. Most commonly, that pattern features a subtle wood grain and either squares or rectangles.

Here is a picture of the squares, which we call a “short panel” door:
